My almond loving husband was intrigued by this recipe. The crust is cookie dough-like made with confectioners’ sugar, salt, cinnamon, egg yolk, vanilla, a whopping 10 tablespoons of butter and flour. Per Dorie, the crust comes together like Play-Doh and is pressed into the tart pan. I used all the dough which seemed like a lot and cooked it a minute longer than stated.
The filling is made up of another 8 tablespoons of butter, sugar, cinnamon, salt, milk and 2 cups of sliced almonds. The sugar mixtures is caramelized in the pan prior to the nuts going in and then it is all cooked again in a 400 degree oven for 15 minutes. I only baked mine 13 minutes as my husband said he did not want any burnt almonds, it was perfectly browned at 13 minutes.
This was a delicious albeit messy dessert. It was hard to eat and sort of shattered with a fork. I think it would be easier to eat as a bar by hand but no matter we all thought it was great. Definitely a make again recipe especially for the nut lover and it was perfectly fine the next day.
To see what other thought head over to Tuesdays with Dorie.
Wow…this one is getting great reviews! It has my attention now…and all the butter required haha.

Love the idea of bar tartlets! this needs to be sliced very thinly and at *just* the right temperature, I found… Yours looks PERFECT!
