Double-Decker Salted Caramel Cake

Happy Birthday to my fellow bakers who share an April Birthday; Kayte and Steph. I am sure we all follow the same tradition of baking our own cakes πŸ™‚ I celebrate my birthday towards the end of the month and then we decided to wait until the weekend to celebrate with family so I am posting late, again.

The star of this cake is the caramel sauce which we have made before and is very good with ice cream. Some of the caramel is inside the baked cake and the rest is the base of the frosting. Dorie suggests thinning the frosting if needed with a bit of cream which I did but I think I added too much as my frosting sort of slid off the cake a bit but no matter as it tasted good anyway.

Everyone enjoyed the cake but it is not a light cake, I would call it substantial. To see what others thought head over to Tuesdays with Dorie.

LOL on the tradition of baking our own cakes…not usually, but I decided this year I would bake one. All the other years since my childhood, I requested the same cake…angel food with no icing and just strawberries to put on it with a little whipped cream. This year I had this cake we made. Happiest of birthdays to you…so fun we have a birthday in the same month. Your cake is gorgeous.
