I purposely made this dessert late, I was saving it for an outdoor luncheon I was having with friends. I was happy when this recipe made the list as I have a cupboard full of dried fruit to use up. As I headed out to get the few ingredients I needed to finish this dish I was surprised to find no phyllo dough in three of the markets I went to, supply chain issues. I did not want to do plan B as I had already steeped the fruit filling. Luckily, the fourth market we went to had phyllo dough.
I have worked with phyllo dough in the past and my experience taught me four hands are better than two. I put my husband (the engineer) in charge of making the nine-inch squares and I did the butter and sugar. This worked well and we did not have any tears. I did not think that I was going to be able to fit all that fruit in a nine-inch square but I did. My husband did a great job with the decorative top.
This was a big hit at the party and with the extra phyllo dough I think it will be made again. To see what others thought head over to Cook the Book Fridays.
Yours is SO lovely! Love the decorative top!
