My rice loving husband voted for this recipe so I enlisted his help in making it. We usually make rice in a rice cooker so making rice on the stove by hand was a labor of love. I put my husband in charge of the caramel, my least favorite thing to do, and it came out perfect. We thought the amount of caramel sauce baked with the rice pudding was enough and we did not use the extra. We worried about getting this out of the pan but it worked just fine. My rice lover enjoyed this room temperature, per Dorie’s recommendation and the next day we ate it cold. We enjoyed this dessert but it is a labor of love and a user of dishes. To see what others thought head over to Tuesdays with Dorie.
Indeed this takes AGES to make and uses a ton of dishes. Glad you had a fan of this dish in your house!

So true this takes forever to make. My DH loves rice, cream and vanilla so this was a win with him me not so much. I do love how it looks.

worth the time in my opinion– loved it, and yours looks creamy and caramely and delish!

Your cake looks perfect and utterly delicious. I missed the opportunity to make this one but your photo is making me want to. Although I mostly to eat it., sounds like making it is not so easy.
