Nothing says Fall like a dish of homemade applesauce. This is not a dish I normally make but it sounded like a fun idea. Ruth states “applesauce practically makes itself” so I figured it would be pretty easy. The recipe calls for 6 apples, I used a variety to add depth of flavor. One cinnamon stick, splash of lemon juice, a bit of water and a few spoonfuls of sugar. Her cookbook is vague on amounts but her website gives amounts, I should have checked there first. She states to season to your own taste but my kiddo likes it plain so I left it at that. The applesauce will last in your refrigerator for a couple of weeks but mine disappeared in under a week. If you are so inclined, there is an accompanying cake recipe Gingered Applesauce Cake.
Applesauce page 90 or Ruth’s website.
I have been looking at both recipes, especially the cake. Good to know this one is a go.

So funny, I was deciding between this and the banana bread (I have a ton of apples that need using up as well). This looks delicious! It's amazing how much better applesauce is when you make it homemade.
