French Fridays with Dorie officially ended with the completion of the book Around My French Table in June. The last 4 weeks of the group including many ten ten lists and favorite recipes. I wrote down everyone’s favorites and vowed to keep cooking on my own. I took a hiatus from the book this summer mostly due to the heat but now that the weather is cooperating I am ready to dive in.
First up Creamy, Cheesy, Garlicky Rice with Spinach (page 380). Not to be compared to risotto which I have not had. This dish was a winner with us. We used it as a side dish for both chicken and salmon and it paired well. I think as an entree it would be too rich but that’s just me.
The group made this back in September of 2011 and you can see their responses here.

That's exactly why I liked it so much – not so heavy, less eggs and cream. Glad you and your family enjoyed it. And, a Mother's Day brunch item – perfect.

Your quiche looks lovely. My husband would definitely like a thick crust.. I think that is generally his favorite part of a quiche.

Hi Diane! Looking good! And yes, you certainly can't beat the clean up that cooking en papillote affords. I have two choys left from my TJ box and they are earmarked for salmon tonight… but now that you mention trout… hmm….

Looks great. I served with chicken, but I'm tempted by the first that you and others chose.

Yeah, this was an easy clean-up, wasn't it? I'm like so many others who liked the steaming method but don't often use it. I love trout so agree with your husband that it might be the perfect \”foil\” to the veggies. Trout is rather mild so it would work great, I think.

Your duck breast look great. I agree with you on the potatoes they did not taste any better with all that was cooked with them. This is a very fancy dinner. With this meal I also had the orange salad and olives it was very good.

I had not prepared duck at home before joining this group and learned that my family really loved it. We don't have it too often but when we do Dorie's recipes are spot on and it is a special treat. Or a fancy Monday meal, as you said 🙂 Kudos for trying on the the WPost recipes- so much to cook, so little time – LOL !!

I found two duck breasts in the freezer and made the same recipe on Sunday. Iloved the sauce with the balsamic, really delicious. Great post, you were able to make up a recipe, something I am trying to do. Have a great weekend.

I love duck too.. weird about the potatoes not picking up the flavors. I used have a great roasted chicken recipe that you cover the bird in duck fat. Duck fat is a great cooking ingredient.
