Since mushrooms do not go over well in my house, I decided to do a make-up for French Fridays with Dorie. I have seen many rave reviews about Gerard’s Mustard Tart (page 154) so I decided to make that.
This was delicious. Dorie’s tart dough is fool proof and I like her ratio of ingredients. I did my best trying to matchstick my vegetables. I ended up with too many vegetables and I was not able to fit them all in. I enjoyed this but I liked quiche maraichere slightly better. I agreed with other Doristas that the leeks cut in matchsticks made them a bit stringy and hard to eat. I would also dice them next time.

Ooh, I LOVED the mustard tart. Though, I admittedly never made the original version but instead have always used her Bonne Idee to use fresh tomatoes. I think it makes the prep a bit easier because you just slice a few tomatoes in half and go. So good. I need to make it again soon.

It's fun to be reminded of some of our earliest FFwD recipes 🙂 I think I need to try the tomato version!

I really liked this tart too. I like the idea of dicing the leeks – getting them into thin slices was a challenge.

Believe it or not, I have never made this tart. The Doristas made this before I joined and I remember that someone really, really didn't like it. So, I've steered clearn. It's so pretty. I think I will pass on the leeks and go for the tomato version.

Your tart looks just like the picture in the book. I think this is the recipe I've made the most times from this book. It's one of my favorites. I just tried it with tomatoes this week which was delicious!

Yours turned out beautifully! I like this recipe a lot. Everyone was surprised at how mellow and rich the mustard flavour was.
