I voted for this recipe since I had just been to Aux Merveilleux de Fred in Versailles, France. I am so glad that I did as they were so delicious and my mother-in-law declared it the best dessert I have made, high praise indeed. I made a full recipe and I sent one home with my mother-in-law and she was so happy. This recipe was worth the effort and I did not think it was that messy.
I made my meringue snackers a day in advance. I should have smoothed out the tops to make it easier to assemble the Little Marvels but that was the only issue I had. For the whipped cream I added the optional cinnamon and vanilla which made it taste great. I used orange marmalade for my optional spread which my husband loved. The chocolate shavings was of course my favorite part.
I thought these were fairly easy to assemble. I had to use a lot of whipped cream to fill the gaps between the meringues. I only assembled half of the recipe so I hope to improve my technique with the second half.
My mother-in-law called the next day to find out what these we called as she was telling her friends how much she liked this dessert, I have one very happy customer. This recipe is definitely a keeper! I look forward to making these again.

I also made another double-chocolate rhubarb tart as I still had rhubarb and I made a full batch of chocolate frangipane. I wanted to share this little trick. I rolled out my cold chocolate frangipane into a circle then placed the chilled circle over the jam, so much easier than trying to squish into place. We enjoyed this the second time around. A great month of baking for me. To see what others thought head over to Tuesdays with Dorie.
Your “marvels” look good but how on earth did you not make any mess? I’ve made these twice now (for David and Dorie books) and won’t make them again they are too much mess!
Interesting idea of rolling the chocolate almond cream – mine is much too creamy to do that, even after a spell in the fridge. If I make this tart again (and I probably will) I will put the cream into the tart shell as soon as it’s made so it’s easier to smooth over. Then pop it in the fridge while the oven heats up. Yours looks fabulous and it making me wish I had more rhubarb!

they look great. it has not been good meringue weather here, so I chickened out on making them. I’ll catch up when we get a not-so-humid spell. and cool tip on the chocolate frangipane…I think mine would have been stiff enough to roll after chilling.

oooh, love your jaffa flavoured marvels. Your tart is super pretty, and I will have to try and remember your trick for the frangipane (cause boy was it hard to spread such a thin layer over the jam).

Orange marmalade sounds like the perfect flavor combination with the chocolate.
