A Big Banana Cake

Baking with Dorie page 92.

Happy birthday to me. I was waiting for my birthday celebration to make this cake since it needed to be shared. There is a lot going on in this cake: two kinds of flour white and wheat, allspice, brown and white sugar, butter, sour cream and mashed bananas of course. This is not a light cake, in more ways than one. From the picture I was expecting something more cake-like but the cake was very dense and heavy. When my cakes didn’t rise much I feared I had made a mistake but they tasted okay. This cake really is like banana bread in cake form. The star of the dish is the decadent frosting made with cookie spread, cream cheese, butter and confectioners’ sugar a repeat for sure. This was worthy of a birthday celebration, mine is ending in a 7 not a 0 πŸ™‚ I cut this into 16 pieces instead of 12 that Dorie recommended. The rest of the cake is going with me to work to continue the celebration. To see what others thought head over to Tuesdays with Dorie.
