My first tarte tatin. I could not believe that I had never made one before but my blog doesn’t lie. This tart is very simple with few ingredients. Sugar is caramelized, I cheated and used the water method, then butter is added to the caramel. Five large apples, I used Fuji, are peeled cored and cut to fit a 9-inch cake pan. I topped my apples with galette dough which is then dusted in sugar. The tart is then baked at 375 degrees for 45 minutes but I baked mine at least 10 minutes longer.
I took a picture before I flipped it over just in case I made a disaster but all went well and stayed in one piece. I had quite a bit of liquid on my plate. I thought I had put in enough apples, but clearly I had gaps and could have put more. I thought the dough looked underdone but it was just fine. It tasted fantastic, everyone loved it. This may have been my first tarte tatin but it won’t be my last. To see what others thought head over to Tuesdays with Dorie.
Looks delicious! You really have to cram those apples in!

Well the advantage of making the Walnut Pie this time around and making the tarte tatin for next week is that I get to see all those tatins made this week and learn of everyone’s experiences…what a good deal for me. I learned a lot from your post, thanks for sharing. It looks so pretty in color and the apples look the perfect amount of tenderness. I’m looking forward to making this.

I think this is the way I’ll do tatins from now on.
