Devil’s Thumbprints

If these don’t get you into the holiday spirit then I don’t know what will 🙂

Baking with Dorie page 173.

Our latest baking assignment comes from Baking with Dorie. This is a plan ahead cookie as the dough needs to chill for 2 hours. I decided to make a half a recipe which I am glad I did as I got 24 cookies. I used my trusty Trader Joe’s dark chocolate bar for the chocolate component. I had strawberry jam on hand so that is what I used for my filling. I did not have a cork handy for the indentations so I used my wooden spoon handle which worked just fine.

These received mixed reviews. I loved them because well chocolate! And I liked the strawberry jam too. My husband thought the chocolate was too bitter and did not like the strawberry jam. Oh well you cannot win them all. My son liked them so 2/3, I consider that a win 🙂 These fudge-like cookies put me in the holiday spirit and I will make them again. To see what others thought head over to Tuesdays with Dorie.

Wow, I love the look of these, they look like little jewels, all sparkly and pretty. Sounds like they were mostly a hit there, sometimes it’s hard to get that 100% rating within one’s own family. Wouldn’t yours look lovely on a Holiday Cookie Tray?

  2. Yours are so pretty! I was at the end of my raw sugar package so my crystals are smaller and sort of melted into the cookies. Still tasted good tho! Love the look of the jam here!

  4. I made these when the book first came out and was happily surprised to find them to be like little brownies. I like the look of yours, and will definitely be making them again for next posting.
