Wine poached pears are a new dish for me, I have not made or ate this dish before. I purchased Bosc pears as those are my favorite. I managed to find a pot that I could fit 6 pears into but it was not easy. The poaching liquid was made of white wine, sugar, honey, fresh ginger, vanilla bean, cinnamon stick, and star anise. I skipped the pepper options. This liquid smelled amazing and tasted even better. I had to restrain myself from drinking the leftovers. I was not sure how to serve these but whole seemed hard to deal with so I cut them all in half and served with whipped cream and chopped pecans. I would have liked to make the caramel sauce but I ran out of time. I saved the liquid and boiled it down a little and it will be seeing a dish of vanilla ice cream in the near future. To see what others thought head over to Cook the Book Fridays.
These look so absolutely succulent. I have served slices of poached pear on a dish of ice cream. Delish!
