Spring is in the air and fresh produce in season is multiplying by the day. This bountiful salad of red grapefruit, strawberries and avocados was a welcome change to our menu. The salad is seasoned with a dressing of grapefruit juice, lime juice, olive oil and salt and pepper. Now about the missing ingredients. I was unable to find any basil in two markets, not sure if there is a recent shortage in California or what. The other herb is cilantro which my mother-in-law does not like so I didn’t want to buy. I did buy a Jalapeño pepper but somehow we lost it, I could not find it anywhere in my car or shopping bag. This was still a refreshing salad but it did miss the basil for more flavor. Another reason to try it again. To see how others faired head over to Cook the Book Fridays.
What ends up on your plate speaks to the usual mix of ingredients in this salad. Maybe it’s worth another try?

That is weird about the basil…I am in California and didn’t have trouble but who knows these days right?! You should try it again with the mixture of flavors and see if you all like it. I didn’t use the cilantro either 👍

Your post made me laugh. Just one of those days. Let us know when you find the pepper. Maybe it didn’t even leave the store.
