Cafe Salle Pleyel Hamburger

This week on French Fridays with Dorie is tuna and mango ceviche (page 178).  I have mentioned before that I don’t like tuna that does not come out of a can and I also don’t like raw fish or meat.  My husband dislikes mangoes and avocados so this recipe just wasn’t going to fly in my house.  I still wanted to participate this week so I did a make-up.

So my edict for this week is that all meals needed to be made on the BBQ.  We are having a heat wave in California and I refused to turn on the oven.  We decided on cafe salle pleyel hamburger (page 240) as our French Friday make-up.

The onion marmalade was delicious.  I have caramelized onions many times but never this technique of cooking it with water.  These onions will also go on hot dogs planned later for this week.

This hamburger got thumbs up from the crowd.  I served it with a nice cold salad with heirloom tomatoes that one of my guests brought.  A delicious meal.

Looks so perfect, I remember we all enjoyed this recipe. As for raw fish, I cannotdo it, so I made mine with cooked shrimp. The recipe was delicious. The most difficult thing being to locate a ripe mango. Leave it Jim, he found one at Wegmen'sand believe me I would have passed this one. But, that said, it worked perfectly.

Where have I been? I never made onion marmalade nor can I remember making the cafe salle pleyel hamburger. We must have made this before I joined FFWD. So thank you for making this, Diane. I am going to re-visit this recipe. I also did a make-up recipe this week. So little time. So many recipes to make. Catch-up.

  4. Looks like the Burger was a great alternative to the Ceviche this week – we did enjoy the ingredients for this´s weeks recipe but we also enjoy grreat burgers and onion marmelade is one delicious condiment to make as well.

Great make up recipe and perfect week for it ! Sorry that the ingredients of this one were not a hit for your house. We did the seared shrimp and I have to say that it was amazing. I do not typically love avocados but do enjoy mangoes- so that helped. But all of them combined was unexpectedly amazing. Now for me to get to MY make up recipes….

A good choice for a make-up! Your burgers look delicious! You will never go wrong with a good burger. I don’t do raw fish either, but chose to make Dorie’s Bonn Idee…the Seared Shrimp with mango and avocado…delicious!

No point in making something if neither of you will enjoy it. Your make up dish, on the other hand, I remember being an almost universal hit. Especially the onions. Nice catch up!
