Apple Galette

Our latest baking assignment comes from Baking with Dorie. I had fully intended to make the caramel applesauce for this recipe but since I had an opened jar of applesauce I did not want to make more. I used my jar of Trader Joe’s unsweetened applesauce which I drained a bit before use and then added a couple teaspoons of Dorie’s caramel sauce. Like my fellow bakers we didn’t really taste the caramel in the finished product. I brushed my finished product with honey to brighten it up but in hind sight I think my caramel sauce as a drizzle would have worked better. A scoop of vanilla ice cream would have taken it over the top but I resisted. This was a nice dessert to welcome the fall season and all the cozy baking that goes with it. To see what others thought head over to Tuesdays with Dorie.

Oh, yes, that caramel drizzle sounds sooooo good. I’m making a note in my book with your name beside it. Yours looks so pretty…all those beautiful apples and the color you got on your crust as well. Yum…looking forward to making this one.

  3. The abundance of baked apples over pastry, together with ice-cream is one of the best desserts, in my mind. What a lovely apple galette you have there!

What a beautiful color on your crust! Good to know regular applesauce works fine.
