Iced Spiced Hermits

Ever since I have purchased my copy of Baking with Dorie I have wanted to make these hermit cookies. My dad’s favorite cookies were hermits and I was feeling nostalgic which is why I kept nominating them. Thanks for finally bringing it to the schedule.

Growing up my family was filled with girls, except my Dad of course. When we girls wanted to bake it was always something with chocolate. When my Dad was craving hermits or walnut bread he would make them himself. His version of hermits were drop cookies and they did not have icing but I was looking forward to trying Dorie’s version.

These cookies tasted like Christmas. I took one set to a friend’s house and the other to a Christmas party and both locations were a big hit. I made another half portion for our Sunday night dinner and again it was enjoyed by all. This is definitely a keeper.

  4. Happy new year! I’m so glad we finally made these…we loved them, too! That’s so funny that your dad would take dessert-making into his own hands from time-to-time to satisfy certain cravings. Do you have his hermit recipe?
