Chocolate-Covered Chai-Tea Bars

While making these bars, I was reminded of my favorite restaurant in San Jose, CA. I used to have to fly to San Jose once a month for work and I would always go to Jubba Restaurant East Africa Cuisine, they had the best spiced tea and fish wraps. If you are ever in the area you should go and get the tea!

These bars are filled with flavor; almond flour, sugar, ginger, cinnamon, zest of one orange, vanilla, and chai tea. My Trader Joe’s Chai Tea bags only took two to get to one tablespoon. Being a chocolate lover I opted for the milk chocolate glaze.

From the picture I could tell that these bars were going to be flat but boy were they flat. My husband said I made a pancake. Since we were heading out for vacation, I cut the bars into 9 pieces and served as a dessert. Despite all the spices we did not taste much of them, the over whelming flavor was almond and the butter made them rich. I liked them especially with the warm gooey chocolate topping and a cup of chai tea. To see what others thought head over to Cook the Book Fridays.

  1. I used the same tea! I wasn’t sure if we were suppose to use the straight tea in the bags or make strong tea. Either way I agree with you it wasn’t too flavorful. These got eaten but not a favorite with my group. Hope you had a fantastic vacation 😍

Oh that looks so shiny and pretty. Mark would love to dig into that. He was a real fan of these despite the fact that I had my misgivings as to how tall they were as I figured I had done something terribly wrong even though she said they were thin. Mine were really really thin. I’d make these again I think…I wasn’t sure at first but now that they are gone, the comments were…do we have any more of those? I will try your milk chocolate next…I’m not too swift on the kinds of chocolate and what they do so I always use exactly what is stated just to be sure. Lol. Learning and branching out is good.
